The Los Alamitos Griffins girls soccer team downed Fountain Valley 2-0 Tuesday afternoon at Laurel High, setting up a Thursday afternoon showdown with Edison for the Sunset league championship.
Alyssa Pepper got Los Al on the scoreboard in the 6th minute. After Rachel price crossed a ball to just outside the box, Pepper outmuscled the defender to poke a shot that rolled past the keeper into the left corner of the net. Callie Taylor would add a goal in the second half.
The Griffins outshot the Barons 24-2 but, as it happened all too frequently, couldn’t finish most of their opportunities.
The win improves Los Al’s league record to 6-1-2 and sets up a Thursday showdown with Edison which also sports a 6-1-2 mark. Edison defeated Los Al 1-0 in the team’s first meeting, scoring a late goal.
