Ten Griffins commit to colleges on Fall ‘signing day’

A gaggle of Griffin senior athletes committed to play sports at colleges at the Fall Letter of Intent signing day ceremony  which took place last week at Los Al High.

Girl’s volleyball led the way with four signers — although two of them will do it for other sports.   Jaylen Villanueva, Lindsay Lawmaster  and JoJo Schanbl signed to play volleyball at UC Santa Barbara, Minnesota and North Carolina, respectively.

But the biggest mystery of the day surrounded senior setter Rachel Fattal, a member of the US Junior National Water Polo team, who kept her to herself choice for that sport until right before the signing, when she committed to play for UCLA next season.

Another Griffin volleyball player, libero Callie Taylor, has committed to play soccer at the University of Cincinnati, but won’t make that official until February, when other sports, including football, open their signing period.

The other Griffin athletes who signed on the line yesterday include:

Griffin baseball player Troy Rallings signed to play for the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos,

Griffin golfer Connor Campbell committed to hit the links for Loyola Marymount.

Swimmer Jessica Mosbaugh committed to swim at Pepperdine.

Kirsten Ferramola signed with Azusa Pacific University, for Acrobatics and Tumbling Team.

Megan Carroll signed to attend Gonzaga University on a rowing scholarship.

Miranda Zsigmond committed to attend Southern Methodist University for rowing.

Although not unusual for Los Alamitos, the ten athletic signings compares to the reported normal high school average of .8 per high school.
